The year 2021 was a big year for the Decrim movements

Just a year ago, it would have been hard to imagine how much the U.S. in particular would open up to psychedelics. Just before Christmas, the small town of Port Townsend entered the list of U.S. cities decriminalizing as number 13. The city council there decided to no longer prosecute possession of mushrooms, ayahuasca, mescaline and iboga. Port Townsend is following the lead of Seattle, which passed a similar resolution in October. Detroit followed suit in November. The state of Oregon even has such a regulation as a whole. All of this happened in 2021. Here's an interesting article that, while referring to Michigan, successfully portrays the movement as a whole and explains its challenges.

Worth reading: ketamine therapy for all? Also: how's that for capitalism?

An excellent in-depth article from The New Yorker magazine ponders how the world will change if ketamine therapy now becomes available everywhere. Indeed, that's on the horizon - in Germany, too, by the way - but exactly how it will all happen and who will benefit is not at all clear yet. The article raises all the questions that will now also be important for Europe.

It is the time of reflective retrospection, and Double Blind magazine also asks a fundamental question: Could therapy with psychedelics contribute to the so-called "extractive capitalism", to the exploitation of people and nature? Many substances come from indigenous peoples, and grow in areas that already face problems - think of the mining of peyote, which threatens the cactus to some extent. But it's also about respectful treatment of the cultures that have discovered substances like ayahuasca or iboga. An important article that also outlines ways out.

By the way, some are feeling their way to the toadstool, Amanita muscaria, and there is some effort to explore it for possible psychedelic research. There is little science, and much remains unclear so far. But an interesting report, with links to research, can be found here. By the way, in Germany the Amanita Muscaria will be the "Mushroom of the Year 2022."
