Podcast episode cover image

I can finally welcome Dr. Gabor Maté on the show! One of the most empathic, unapologetic and science driven people in the mental health space. I love that combination!

And yes, we are also talking about psychedelics and trauma, but what I really like about Gabor is that he sounds like a contemporary, cool philosopher, helping to explain the exciting and disruptive times we live in. Dr. Gabor Maté is a Hungarian-Canadian physician and author. He has a background in family practice and a special interest in childhood development and trauma and in their potential lifelong impacts on physical and mental health, including on autoimmune disease, cancer, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), addictions, and a wide range of other conditions. Maté's approach to addiction focuses on the trauma his patients have suffered and he looks to address this in their recovery. We address, how most psychiatrists today are trained in a narrow fashion, Gabor’s ayahuasca ceremony and how he learned about his closed heart, the deepest pain and the deepest love and that our healing in the present and within ourselves.

I can highly recommend really all of his books.

In the Realm of hungry ghosts; When the Body Says No; The Cost of Hidden Stress; Scattered Minds: The Origins and Healing of Attention Deficit Disorder; and (with Dr. Gordon Neufeld) Hold on to Your Kids: Why Parents Need to Matter More Than Peers The Myth of Normal: Trauma, Illness & Healing in a Toxic Culture.
